This one is special! We had the honor to curate and collaborate with the iconic @blu_murphy to bring “RedLine” to view at @gwmssc. . “Now it’s just this dream, but I feel like I am taking my students with me” - Blu Murphy . The “RedLine” series’ purpose is for the viewer to connect to these pieces in a tangible way. The materials used in the series are limitless and generally include leather, collage, textiles, fabrics, and photography. The purpose of this series is to highlight subjects by using various textures that represent them as individuals and urban culture. The red line of quilted fabric that covers the eyes of my subjects in this work is a visual representation of the blinding educational trap “redlining” creates in low-income black communities. —— #EdEmcees #EdEmceeAcademy

Last week, we kicked off our first-ever residency on the West Coast! We brought some of our squad, @drcrystalleigh and @beb.thee.mc , and had a great time. Last week, we joined our friends @gwmssc on campus to celebrate their King Week and it was an amazing experience. We had a great conversation about our favorite element of Hip-Hop, which is Knowledge of Self. We also discussed the importance of staying awake during the revolution. We wrote about what inspires and motivates us and ended the day with an inspiring and informative Open Mic with students and staff. A believer that language can ground our experiences and we can transmute those experiences into healing and transformative art. . @seemalpractice is an energetic storyteller who compels students of all ages to take command of their names and their stories.
